Deep tissue or Sports massage?

Which massage type is best for you? Deep tissue or Sports massage?

These two different types of massages use to be confused all the time. They both require a firm pressure but they have different targets.

Deep Tissue Massage :

 It is a full body massage, focussed on a full-body relaxation applying a firm pressure to access and release deeper muscles in the body, breaking down adhesion between fascia, muscles and bones, built up because of repetitive actions, posture, way to walk, sit, sleep,... .

 New areas of tension, which you could not be aware of, will be released. 

It uses a combination of deep and light modalities to loosen up muscles and some light and easy stretching could be integrated. 

During deep tissue massages will be given enough focus on relaxation and unwind; head, hands or feet massages are usually included in longer sessions.

  • It gives an overall feeling of wellbeing.

Sports massage:

It is a targeted massage, focussed on specific areas of the body in need of healing or relief.  

Sometimes the therapist could spend one whole session focusing only on the area of the body which is in need. 

It is great for athletics or anyone who does a physically demanding job or has an active lifestyle, which overuse one specific area of their bodies.

A sports massage therapist can evaluate your posture and suggest you tailored exercises.

It uses stretching and more vigorous movements which sometimes could not feel totally comfortable and pleasant; The client plays an active role during the session, she/he could be asked to move or tense a specific muscle while the therapist is working on it.
